Manatee Watch And Snorkel Excursion

Manatees have been called many names, including Sirenians, sea cows and even mermaids. The first Europeans to encounter manatees thought that they were seeing the mythically beautiful mermaids, which were believed to be half woman, half fish creatures. On closer inspection however, they were disappointed to see that these animals were not quite as beautiful as they thought. West Indian Manatees live in the warm coastal waters of the Caribbean. Once at Swallow Caye you will have an opportunity to view the West Indian Manatee in their natural habitat. Then we head to Goff’s Caye where you can snorkel off the Caye’s white beaches among reef coral and color fish.

Once you have worked up a healthy appetite exploring the reef or just soaking up the rays, you will enjoy a tasty Beach BBQ that has been prepared by your guide. The BBQ includes fish, roasted potatoes, pasta salad, coconut rice, flour tortillas and our famous brownies. After lunch the next stop is Caye Caulker, where we see Sea Horses and snorkel at Coral Gardens. Finally we stop in Caye Caulker where you can browse our sister island before returning to San Pedro.

Please note that swimming with the Manatees is not permitted due to conservation laws.

This Half Day adventure starts at Hol Chan Marine Reserve, where your guide will show you around the spectacular snorkel area. Then head on to Shark Ray Alley, where you will encounter sharks and rays in their natural habitat.

Tours are available in the morning and afternoon.

Mexico Rocks is less and 20 minutes by boat and has easy depths from three to 15 feet. After snorkeling for about 45 minutes your guide will whisk you to Tres Cocos for a up close look at the reef, or depending on what the underwater buzz is – he may even have something special to see, a once in a lifetime adventure.
